Breakdown Overview
Last Updated: June 23, 2025
We have significantly changed our platform for film breakdown. Our new design works for any sport and allows your coaching staff to break down film using Tags that contain your own terminology or nomenclature. Each coach does things a certain way and instead of forcing them into our design, we wanted to provide a way for coaches to create their own custom system for breakdown.
Our new design is open and allows you to take film breakdown in any direction for any sport. It is also important to understand that Film Breakdown is NOT Film Statistics. Our breakdown feature will not generate stats that can go into a stat book. It is primarily designed to give you quick and efficient insight into the game as well as a jumping-off point for a deeper dive using Open AI.
Film Breakdown
All of the items listed below make up Film Breakdown. This feature provides coaches with insight to some of the important numbers and tendencies in a game. We try to automate the process of game data collection (Tags, Markers, Action Detection) as best we can. We then summarize this game data visually in a Game Report. Finally we generate an AI discussion with you based on the game data found allowing you to delve deeper into the numbers to get real analysis and insight.
Film Breakdown consists of the following objects or features:
Input
We have two ways of inputting breakdown data into your film. The easiest way is with Action Detection, which is full AI video analysis. For those actions and tags that AI is unable to identify automatically, teams can enter them manually.
Action Detection
Action Detection is the result of AI analyzing the video and looking for specific actions within the game. Currently we are identifying snaps in football, serves in volleyball and shots in basketball. When Action Detection identifies a specific action, it creates a Tag and inserts the Tag into a Marker; designating the exact spot on the film where the Action occurred.
Markers
A Marker is a bookmark or point in the game that marks the start of a given play or action and stores all of the tags for that play or action. All of these Markers can be applied to a single full game-length video clip marking each snap, serve or shot in a game. We show the Markers in a list just as if the film was spliced into individual plays.
Tags
We have common tags for any sport: serve, shot, snap, offense, defense, run, pass, etc. In addition to our common tags, you can create your own tags using your own terminology or nomenclature.
Please review Film Breakdown for your specific sport to identify what specific Tags are used for Action Detection and Game Reports
Game Report
To help you visualize your breakdown data, a Game Report is generated based on the tags you provided for the game. The report is a simple layout of charts and tables giving you Top 10 lists, play call tendencies, etc.
Scout Wizard (Future)
We are continuing to work with AI to create a conversation environment where coaches can interact with AI regarding their breakdown and receive adjustments, insight and guidance. Early testing has shown this to be a positive experience for coaches and provide them with game and scouting strategies that they had previously not considered.
Scout Wizard is planned on releasing in spring 2026 with early beta testing in late fall 2025.
